Appeal for the acquittal of six young people arrested ahead of Greek Embassy
Six young people have been arbitrarily arrested during the demonstration in solidarity with Greek students on December 12th in Paris. Police force took the pretext the demonstration was not authorized, to choose, haphazardly, some demonstrators. They have been kept in police custody during 48 hours, and during the first 24 hours they could not see nor advocate nor doctor, and have been threaten and private of sleeping. They've got an immediate passage ahead of judge. They have been charged for violence in meeting against the police, destruction of common goods in meeting and refusal of DNA removal. They can take 5 years of imprisonment. Front of the lake of proofs, the judge decided to report the trial. It will be in January 19th (during exams period). There arbitrarily arrests show up the will of the government to intensify the repression policy against the social movement. French President Sarkozy, during last weeks on the head of European Council, wanted to testify his solidarity with the Caramanlis' right wing government, which is, in Greece, front of a really important social movement due to the assassinate by the police of a 15 years old young man and mobilized by really truly strong social claims. This is also a signal to bring down the numerous social struggles which will born and spread with the aggravation of financial crisis. This crisis strikes the popular classes, the young people, in whole Europe.
We could not accept such serious attack on individual and collective liberties. These young people committed the only crime to demonstrate their opinion and their solidarity with the Greek youth. We could not accept they risk 5 years of imprisonment only for have been in a demonstration. We require the entire acquittal of these six young people and the stopping of all prosecutions.
